Hemmoroids - Some Causes And Simple Cures Of This Painful Affliction!

Written By Peggie Trenut

Irritations in or around the anus or rectum are called hemmoroids. Inflamed blood vessels are usually the cause of this distressing affliction. Don't worry - a hemroid is not life threatening. However hemmoroids can certainly be distressing and embarrassing. They will usually go away up in several days all by themselves, but sometimes they will not go away very quickly. When this happens, see a doctor.

The main cause of hemmoroids is usually sitting for long periods of time. This puts pressure on the veins in the rectum and can be made worse if you are overweight. If too much pressure is exerted upon the veins around the anus, they can become inflamed and irritated leading to the formation of a hemroid. Another cause is excessive straining during bowel movements.

Hypertension can also start the process and high blood pressure can exacerbate the problem. Pregnancy can lead to hypertension in some cases and also cause hemmoroids. Insufficient liquid intake and improper nutrition, especially low-fiber diets can cause hard stools, which are difficult to pass. This can cause irritation or damage to the rectal veins, and causes constipation, thus leading to a painful hemroid.

As far as prevention goes, there are a few things that you can change in your diet to help prevent hemmoroids. Keeping well hydrated can make sure everything moves along smoothly, thus preventing constipation. Making sure you get enough fiber either from whole grains, vegetables and fruits or dietary supplements can also help. Keeping yourself in good health overall is also a good way to discourage the formation of hemmoroids.

If you can lose weight, this will help to relieve or even prevent hemmoroids from forming. If you have to sit for work, then get up and stretch every so often thru out the day. Also, exercise regularly to stay in general good health. This will keep a hemroid at bay. This seems like common sense - but sometimes people do forget the basic things.

In addition to regular exercise, performing Kegel exercises can also prove beneficial in keeping hemmoroids at bay. These exercises flex and strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor. Strengthening these muscles provides better muscle tone and better circulation in the entire region.

A less well known method of preventing hemmoroids, and one that most people may not consider using is squat toilets. Western nations commonly use seat toilets. However, these put pressure on the rectal veins where a hemroid can form. There is no pressure on these veins with Squat toilets, and the incidence of hemmoroids among people who use these toilets is extremely low.

Having a hemroid can be extremely painful. Usually they will clear up on their own in a few days by themselves. Bowel movements will be somewhat painful as well during this period because of the irritated and sore surrounding area. Preventing painful hemmoroids is pretty easy; if you remember to eat properly, exercise regularly and avoiding unnecessary straining. If your hemroid does get worse however, do go to your doctor.
